C’NKY SIWELA DEBUT SINGLE “DISTANT CRY” IS OUT NOW!

South Africa based, Electro/Pop singer, C’nky Siwela has announced the digital release of his debut single “Distant Cry” for June 19, 2015 via iTunes. Siwela has been garnering considerable buzz in South Africa; in 2014 he won the award for Best Afro-Pop Artist at the SACRA Awards following the release of his album, Reminiscent of the Sounds. With his new single and upcoming album, Another Side of Me on; C’nky is ready to further broaden his market into the United States.

“Distant Cry” (featuring rapper/producer Louis M. Songz), displays C’nky’s versatile musical concept by blending a contemporary mix of jazz influenced flute melodies, along with his soulful vocals into a House/Pop composition. This inspiring track intends to motivate people who are suffering from any struggles during their journey to reach their ultimate goals. “Distant Cry” reminds listeners to show love and respect to one another in order for everyone to reach their greatest achievements in life. The song has already received more than 19,000 listens on SoundCloud.

“Distant Cry’ is lyrically inspirational, courageous and friendly which is combined with a nice electronic groove. I identify my music as an original style fused with a traditional South African vibe. It is meant to be fun and energetic that can make anyone lighten up,” says C’nky Siwela.

C’nky Siwela is not only a South African house/pop singer but, also a well renowned flautist. If you do not see C’nky singing or playing the flute live at a music conference or awards ceremony (in Joannesburg, South Africa), he may be at any of the following institutions; Tsa Lapeng Music Initiative, C’nky Siwela Flute Institute (CSFI) and Hammanskraal Joyful Sounds, where he serves as the Artistic and Educational director. The objective of CSFI is to provide young classically trained flautists (in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Northwest and Limpopo Province) the opportunity to strengthen the role of flautists in South African Jazz.

Tim Shelton pays tribute to songwriting hero with "Jackson Browne Revisited," his post-NewFound Road solo debut on Dry Lightning Records!

Tim Shelton Pays Tribute to Songwriting Hero with Jackson Browne Revisited,
His Post-NewFound Road Solo Debut on Dry Lightning Records

Renowned gospel and bluegrass artist expands musical palette with 12-track release

DAYTON, Ohio — There’s hardly a recording artist on the planet who hasn’t done at least a few cover tunes in homage to major influences. But releasing an entire album covering Jackson Browne’s most iconic classics? If you’re gonna try that, you’d better bring it. Fortunately, Tim Shelton does exactly that on Jackson Browne Revisited, his new release on Dry Lightning Records.

Shelton, who guided the band NewFound Road from gospel to bluegrass and beyond, has left that chapter behind to pursue his other musical passions, including his love for Browne and similar songwriters. Hints of what was to come appeared on NewFound Road’s 2011 album, Live at the Down Home, on which they covered Browne’s “These Days” and songs by Tom T. Hall, Bill Withers, Dave Loggins and other icons. But on Jackson Browne Revisited, he concentrates on his biggest influence.

“Jackson Browne is one the best songwriters and musicians of our day,” says Shelton. “His music, especially the songs from the ‘70s, just speaks to my soul.”

Co-producing with Paul Kolderie (Radiohead, Warren Zevon, Hole, the Pixies), Ohio native Shelton wraps his rich vocals around 12 Browne classics, including “Doctor My Eyes” and “Somebody’s Baby.” Their arrangements impeccably capture the spirit of the beloved California folk rocker’s beautifully crafted work, while going far beyond mere re-creations of the originals.

They recorded at the Monastery Studio, owned by Ric Hordinski, co-founder of renowned Ohio band Over the Rhine. Contributors include Josh Shilling on piano and harmonies, vocalists Sonya Isaacs (the Isaacs) and Shawn Lane (Doyle Lawson, Ricky Scaggs, Blue Highway), Grammy-winning flatpicking guitarist Clay Hess (Ricky Skaggs), bassist Dave LaBruyere (John Mayer, Vigilantes of Love) and Cincinnati-based drummer Josh Seurkamp.

“I knew that I wanted to get a great band and keep it as live sounding as possible,” Shelton notes. Tracking live in the studio, they created a sonic document that breathes new life into Browne’s work, revisiting songs from his self-titled 1972 debut to 1983’s I’m Alive. They include “Take It Easy,” the Browne/Glenn Frey composition that became the Eagles’ first hit before Browne recorded it on 1973’s For Everyman. “Fountain of Sorrow” and the title tune from 1974’s Late for the Sky are here, along with two tracks from 1977’s Running on Empty — one of which, “The Road,” is the only track not actually written or co-written by Browne; it’s credited to his friend Danny O’Keefe. The closer is one of Browne’s most revered, and timeless composition: “The Pretender.”

“What I'm most proud of with this record is we were able to keep emotion in these songs, even though they're not mine,” Shelton says. “I can relate to these lyrics. Hopefully, others will dig it too.”

Jackson Browne Revisited track list
1. Doctor My Eyes
2. Love Needs A Heart
3. The Road
4. Late For The Sky

KWAME BINEA SHAKEDOWN ANNOUNCE SECOND SINGLE AND VIDEO, "HANG ON" SET FOR JUNE 16TH

New York, NY - June 12, 2015...Harlem-based roots rock singer/songwriter Kwame Binea, who fronts the Kwame Binea Shakedown, has announced the worldwide digital release of their second single, "Hang On" for Tuesday, June 16, 2015 via CDbaby.com and all their major digital distribution partners including  iTunes and Amazon.com.

"Hang On" is catchy, upbeat, funk/rock/soul dance song layered with a poignant, hopeful and uplifting universal message that encourages "little brothers to hang on."
It was co-written and produced by Kwame Binea and guitarist Justin Wilcox for Binea's indie imprint, Pelopos Entertainment Group. The song also features the rest of Shakedown band, drummer Medley Shabazz, guitarist Art Vanterpool, bassist Phil Bass, Daron Wright on keyboards, Kengo Yamada and Michael Quigley on saxophone, Brian Varneke on trumpet, and guest background vocalists Dietrice Bolden and Jindai Joseph.

The video meshes live performance footage with compelling images that accentuate the broader symbolism and inspiration behind the song. The video was edited by Kate Peterson.

"I really wanted to create an anthem-like track to encourage young brothers to keep their heads up and never stop believing in themselves," explains Binea. "These are tough times and a lot of our young people are a bit lost and aren't getting the level of support they need. So, just trying to give them some of the same kind of positive reinforcement and encouragement I received growing up," he added.

"Hang On" follows the group's debut single/video "Let Go" (released in April). The video was culled from a Kwame Binea Shakedown live performance at the Brooklyn Bowl earlier this year.

Binea grew up splitting time in West London (his birth place) and in his native origins, Ghana. He later moved to Cherry Hill, NJ as a teenager where he started to unearth his artistic aspirations as a burgeoning songwriter/singer/guitarist. While in college he teamed up with guitarist/vocalist Justin Wilcox as a  duo, which became the nucleus that spawned the rock/funk collective Kwame Shakedown in Harlem, NY (2011). Over the past several years they have built a legion of loyal fans performing at most of the city's most noted music venues including Joe's Pub, Arlene Grocery, Rockwood Music Hall and Brooklyn Bowl, to name just a few.

The Kwame Binea Shakedown will also be releasing their self-titled debut EP July 17.

About Heart
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Ann and Nancy Wilson first showed the world that women can rock when their band, Heart, stormed the charts in the ’70s with hits like “Crazy on You,” “Magic Man,” “Barracuda,” “Straight On” and so many more. Not only did the Wilson sisters lead the band, they wrote the songs and played the instruments too, making them the first women in rock to do so. Heart continued topping the charts through the ’80s and ’90s with huge hits like “These Dreams,” “Alone,” “What About Love,” “If Looks Could Kill,” “Never” and a string of other hits that showcased the sisters’ enormous talents as musicians and singers.

Through the years, Heart has sold more than 35 million albums, performed sold-out arena shows worldwide, and found their way into the soundtrack of American life through radio, motion pictures, television and associations with branded sponsors. Today, songs made famous by Heart are heard in every aspect of contemporary culture.

Nearly 35 years after their first big hit, the sisters were back in the Billboard Top 10 in 2010 with Red Velvet Car and a Top 5 DVD “Night at Sky Church.” In 2012, Fanatic continued Heart’s current chart success debuting in the Billboard Top 25 and spawning two hit singles “Fanatic” and “Dear Old America.” The group also released a comprehensive CD box set entitled Strange Euphoria, filled with rarities and previously unreleased treasures that met with acclaim from critics and fans alike.

In September 2012, Ann and Nancy released their first-ever memoire “Kicking & Dreaming: A story of Heart, Soul and Rock and Roll,” spending several weeks on the New York Times bestseller chart. That same year, the duo were awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and in December they learned that 36 years after the release of Dreamboat Annie, Heart had been inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

As a fitting finale for an extraordinary year, Ann and Nancy were asked to perform “Stairway to Heaven” as the finale to the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors tribute to Led Zeppelin. In addition to visibly moving Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones, their rendition brought the entire Kennedy Center audience to its feet.

In 2013, the Wilson sisters fulfilled a personal goal and created a special once-in-a-career holiday concert with special guests in their hometown of Seattle.  Entitled “Heart & Friends: Home for the Holidays,” this special show featured guest performances by Shawn Colvin, Sammy Hagar, Richard Marx, and Pat Monahan and was released on DVD/CD and Blu-ray in November 2014.

Another outstanding year for the Heart sisters, 2014 found Ann sitting in with The Roots on “The Tonight Show” and both Ann and Nancy sitting in with the Foo Fighters on “Late Show with David Letterman.” In May, they celebrated ASCAP’s 100th birthday in Washington, D.C. at a star-studded event at the Library of Congress attended by members of the joint houses of Congress. On November 7, Heart memorabilia and personal belongings were featured in the Julien’s Rock ‘n Roll Icons & Idols auction.  Later that month, Heart appeared alongside Stevie Wonder and many other great performers at the 83rd Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade.

September 4, 2014, New York, NY – Sweet Honey In The Rock, the venerable and  Grammy nominated a cappella ensemble who've built a legacy for merging an inimitable and distinct harmonic vocal blend with a veracious commitment to activism, social justice, equality and freedom have announced their final fall shows to commemorate their SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK - 40TH ANNIVERSARY: FORTY & FIERCE year and milestone achievement.
Sweet Honey launched their anniversary in mid-February of 2014 at the Zellerback Theater in Berkeley. CA, and have been performing throughout the year. The SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK - 40TH ANNIVERSARY SHOW fall run will kick off September 18th at the University of Nevada/Reno's Nightingale Concert Hall in Reno, Nevada. Sweet Honey's tour will comprise fifteen shows and culminate on November 22nd at the Edmonds Center For The Arts in Edmond, WA. It will also include the final SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK: 40TH ANNIVERSARY, FORTY & FIERCE larger production on October 14th at the Thrivent Financial Hall/Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in Appleton, WI.
Musically, the show relies on the depth of the ensemble's varied repertoire and newly arranged medleys and arrangements of some of their classics. Throughout the show each member will also share their own intimate personal stories in dialogue and perform influential songs that have highlighted their incredible journey over the past four decades. Audiences will also be warmed up and treated to a special pre-show presentation entitled “She-Rocks 5 Radio,” that will comprise an audio compilation of their most revered songs. The program is hosted by DJ Merk (Epatha Merkerson) and produced by Louise Robinson and Jordon Maillard Ware.
"We're extremely excited and feel blessed to have experienced and enjoyed such longevity, and we're very thankful to all our loyal fans who have stood by us all these years," stated Sweet Honey original member Carol Maillard. "They have been the driving force that has fueled all our artistic endeavors, and we're elated and happy to celebrate and share this special show with our fans and show them why we all feel "Forty & Fierce!”  Sweet Honey comprises Louise Robinson, Carol Maillard, Nitanju Bolade Casel, Aisha Kahlil and Shirley Childress (American Sign Interpreter).
Sweet Honey In The Rock began creating its adventurous and diverse mixture of blues, African, jazz, gospel and R & B music as a quartet in 1973. Formed by Dr. Bernice Reagon (who retired in 2004) the ensemble's patented sound was honed during a workshop at the D.C Black Repertory Theater Company in Washington, DC. Since that time, they have performed throughout the world, including Africa, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, at many of the premiere venues in the United States, released 23 recordings, been featured in documentaries and amassed a distinguished list of honors, awards and accolades.

The ensemble just returned from a short tour of Belize (August 26th - 31st) as part of the longstanding Arts Envoy Program and initiative by the US State Department that's hosted by the US Embassy in Belize. Sweet Honey performed concerts in Belize City, Dangriga and Placencia and conducted artist exchange workshops with a couple noted Belizean artists.

Last year the band successfully launched their first ever fan based fundraising campaign with the IndieGogo online platform.  Funds derived from the campaign have been used to produce their 40th Anniversary show. They also toured Europe and Australia and performed at  the National Memorial Service for the late Nelson Mandela presented at the National Cathedral in Washington DC and were recipients of distinguished awards by the Search for Common Ground Organization in DC and "The Keeper Of Flame" Award" presented at the national convention and Signature Gala of the Delta Sigma Theta Society in Washington, DC.

In 2012, they performed at the unveiling ceremonies for the Martin Luther King monument on the National Mall. They also debuted their first ever orchestral collaboration, providing the lyrics for composer William Banfield’s “Symphony 10: Affirmations for a New World,” co-commissioned by the National Symphony Orchestra (Christoph Eschenbach, Music Director) and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington, DC; the Minnesota Orchestra, (Osmo Vänskä, Music Director); and the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, Millennium Park, Chicago, released a thought-provoking single and video, “Are We A Nation,” inspired by the controversial immigration law that was enacted in Arizona . The song captured a Gold Songwriter Award from the 27th Mid-Atlantic Song Contest and was featured on an all-star compilation, “Bordersongs,” that raised money for the No More Deaths organization, which provides water and humanitarian aid along the Arizona/Mexico border. Their latest 2-CD set, “A Tribute – Live! Jazz at Lincoln Center,” pays homage to some of the great female African-American vocalists whose songs helped shape the group, including Abbey Lincoln, Odetta, Miriam Makeba, and Nina Simone.
