LUKAS NELSON FEATURED ON DAD WILLIE NELSON’S HEROES CD

Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real’s Wasted Score Points With Critics

Los Angeles – Country legend Merle Haggard recently told the press that he likes where country music is heading and it’s heading smack dab in the direction of Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, the hard-working band who has been wowing crowds with their unique blend of rock and roll, country, roots, Southern rock, and blues punctuated by memorable energetic live shows.

The article, published in the Boot, stated, “Among Merle Haggard's favorite newbies are Hunter Hayes, Jamey Johnson and fellow icon Willie Nelson's son, Lukas Nelson." The stamp-of-approval from one of the genre’s greats comes on the heels of the release of Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real’s second full-length album, Wasted, which has been racking up rave reviews from coast the coast.

The latest praise comes from the Aquarian Weekly, which writes, “Wasted by Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real proved to be a phenomenal album. With its irrefutable energy and emotionally relatable lyrics, the CD is heartwarming and enjoyable. It contains universal ideas, such as the struggle of unrequited love, friendship, and having pride in where you come from.”

The Austin Chronicle loves the band too: "There's an identifiable vibe, not unlike the one the Band had,” while the Arizona Reporter states, “The largely female, enthusiastic crowd kept their eyes open, because Nelson's energetic stage presence is a treat.”

And now they have yet another musical offering from Nelson to write home about. The 23-year-old singer/songwriter/guitarist teamed up with his father, Willie Nelson, to contribute to several tracks on Willie’s new record, Heroes, which released May 15 on Legacy Records.

Lukas appears on 10 of the 14 tracks of the album, including such songs as Lukas’ own “Sound Of Your Memory”, “No Place To Fly” and “Every Time He Drinks He Thinks Of Her,” as well as Eddie Vedder’s “Just Breathe” and “Come On Up to the House” with Sheryl Crow (written by Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan), among others.

“It’s so great to get this chance to work with my father,” says Lukas. “I love when I get a chance to duet and sing harmony with my dad. We do sing a lot together. And, I really liked the Eddie Vedder song we did. I ran into Eddie and he said he heard it and he gave me big love and hugged me.”

Lukas and Willie have also been promoting the new record with a string of radio and television appearances, starting with an exclusive album premiere special on SiriusXM Radio on Willie’s Roadhouse channel that debuted on May 14.  Check out video of the performance of “Just Breathe,” here: http://youtu.be/bausG809hv0.  Spin.com notes “Lukas’ solo at the 3:14 mark is particularly nice.”

The stop at SiriusXM was followed by a live performance of Willie and Lukas, backed by Promise of the Real and Willie’s band, on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon where they performed “Just Breathe” (see video of episode here:

Nadus Films and BBoy For Life

Coury Deeb began making films in 2005 on location in Sudan, just months after the end of hostility from the 21 year civil war. A few weeks after Coury returned from Sudan he decided on the name: Nadus Films. Nadus is simply Sudan spelled backwards. Coury realized his desire to invest in and become a long-term servant of the fight against social injustice. It is because of this desire that Coury and his team have completed 3 feature length films: shot in countries around the world.

With his background as a photographer and the resources available to him in the US, Coury knew that he was in a unique position to use quality, cinematic storytelling to enlighten the world about social issues and to give a voice to people, who otherwise might never be heard.  In addition to documenting the world’s injustices Nadus Films does as much as it can to provide aid and support to its ground partners. Nadus Films ground partners receive 100% of all campaign donations. Our ground partners are instrumental in helping Nadus Films achieve the story needed.

The latest project from Nadus Films is BBoy For Life. It tells the story of three individuals who's lives are greatly effected by gang violence in Guatemala City. To counter the strife around them some Guatemalans commit their lives to break dancing and form crews of dancers who share the desire to stray from criminality. These individuals are called BBoys. The film’s title expresses not only the pride of the BBoy crews, but also the truth that while risking death from a gang’s disapproval, there are young men and women who would rather attempt life along the honest and artistic path of dancing, instead of gang banging. It is the hope of Nadus Films that BBoy For Life will positively affect the number of kids who can become trained break-dancers, rather than become a gang’s new recruits.

Nadus Films launched a KickStarter campaign to raise funds to finish the production of BBoy For Life. Click the link below to watch the trailer, see prize packages and learn more about the project.

BETTER GET USED TO THE PRESENT—BECAUSE THERE’S NO END OF NOW!

TAMPA BASED JAZZ/ROCK POWER TRIO TRANSCENDS GENRES,
EXPLORING LIMITLESS SONIC POSSIBILITIES
ON THEIR EXPLOSIVE NEW FULL LENGTH RECORDING
‘SOME MUSIC WE MADE’

We may not always be able to live a life without limits—but an explosive new Tampa based jazz/rock power trio is showing us the endless possibilities of how to embrace today, this very moment, like there’s No End of Now.

That provocative moniker perfectly reflects the free flowing, wild musical, groove and sonically expansive conversations that drive Rex Shepherd (guitars), John Tschirhart (bass) and Jason Stander (drums). Together, they create a hard to peg, alternately infectious and trippy, hypnotic vibe that expands and revolutionizes the many genres they draw from—starting with jazz, rock, funk, blues and world music. It’s an ever-evolving aesthetic they share on their new full length recording Some Music We Made, recorded live in two days at Clear Track Studios in Clearwater, Florida.
With this “live in the present” philosophy, where every musical notion is an open door to a new way to think about rock and jazz, the three principals of No End of Now are open to letting their growing legion of fans define the live and recorded experience.

Some dub No End of Now as “hippie Jazz,” others as “psychedelic fusion.” Shepherd’s favorite comparison came from a guy in a bar where they were playing one night: “Robin Trower meets Miles Davis,” a spot on observation considering that Shepherd’s guitar influences range from Trower and Hendrix on the classic rock side to jazz greats Jim Hall and Bill Frisell.

Still others get drawn in beyond the point of no return and are left almost speechless, save for “What the hell was that? That was cool.” With titles like “Meditation on the Occasional Uselessness of a Guitar Pick,” “Lunch With The Departed” and “Soy Mash,” that’s pretty much the norm.

Before moving to Central Florida about a decade ago, Shepherd was a long established musician on the jazz circuit in Cleveland, primarily playing the Telecaster and doing straight ahead jazz. Over the years, he began finding new ways to meld jazz with his foundational love of rock and also began incorporating more exotic sounds from his growing interest in Indian music.

He started gigging heavily around Tampa, where he met and ultimately joined creative forces with Tschirhart, a Detroit native (and fellow enthusiast of both jazz and rock) whose upright bass was in high demand on the local scene. The duo’s chemistry went over well at numerous local venues, from clubs to coffee shops, hookah bars and a hip pizza joint in New Port Richey, where they scored the longest running jazz gig (a year and a half) that the restaurant had ever had.

After a long deserved creative break, Shepherd was inspired to start making music again after the unexpected passings of his grandmother and mother within a six month time span. He began writing some of what he calls “the best music of my life” and called up Tschirhart to see about hooking up again. After six months of searching for the perfect drummer/percussionist, they met Stander, one of the hottest drummers on the Southeast Jam scene thanks to his recording and touring with Worldwide Zoo and Green Sunshine--who blew them away at his audition.

While their ultimate goal is to get on the jam band and festival circuits, No End Of Now has done gigs thus far at several Tampa Bay area clubs including The Roosevelt 2.0, Skipper’s Smokehouse and Mr. Dunderbaks.

“The most exciting thing about having this incredible lineup is our ability to play not only the handful of songs I had previously written out, but also to naturally improvise on the other tracks that didn’t have an initial roadmap,” says Shepherd. “Working with John and Jason gives me a chance to express the edgier side of me that I never got to show when I was playing straight ahead jazz. Our chemistry lies in the listening each of us does, the ability to have the others hear what one of us is doing and then respond to it and take off in unexpected directions.”
